Specialists in Tuck, Ribbon & Penny Roll Pointing
Specialist tuck pointing restoration to preserve the decorative character of Victorian brickwork.
Tuck pointing is a decorative technique widely used on Victorian buildings to create the appearance of fine, perfectly aligned joints. The process involves filling the joints with coloured mortar and then applying a thin line of contrasting lime putty to replicate the appearance of narrow joints.
This technique was used extensively across London's Victorian terraces and townhouses, giving brickwork a precise, refined appearance. Over time, the fine lime putty lines can deteriorate, and the coloured mortar beneath can crack and fall away.
At Artisan Brick & Stone Restoration, we provide specialist tuck pointing restoration, carefully matching the original mortar colours and recreating the fine lime putty lines to restore the decorative finish of Victorian brickwork.
The Tuck Pointing Process
- The mortar joints are filled with a coloured mortar that closely matches the colour of the surrounding bricks, making the joints almost invisible
- A thin ridge of contrasting lime putty is then applied along the centre of the joint, creating the illusion of very fine, even joints running through the brickwork

Seeing the difference
Every restoration is unique, whether its a home coated in an unsightly cracking render, pebble dash or layers of paint, we patiently remove inappropriate additions and years of grime to reveal the true beauty of the brick beneath. See the change for yourself.

Restoring tuck pointing not only protects the brickwork from further deterioration but also preserves the original decorative craftsmanship that gives Victorian buildings their distinctive character.
